Mission

Texas Community Advocate informs community members about the benefits of supporting local businesses, artists, agriculture and educational institutions to improve the economic and cultural resources of their communities.

About Texas Community Advocate

Houston Institute for Culture introduced Texas Community Advocate - Positive Action for Texas Communities in November 2006.

The Texas Community Advocate website, texasculture.org, supports statewide and national public service initiatives. Educational resources and promotional materials are provided to inform and empower community members to take positive steps to improve the economic and cultural resources of their communities.

Houston Institute for Culture - Center for Localism
A center for broad interests and local solutions

The Houston Institute for Culture's Center for Localism aims to improve the lives of millions of people by restoring sense of pride and dedication to quality of life in localities across the state and nation. Whether they are unincorporated rural areas or neighborhoods within cities, all communities struggle with the economic realities of their poorest and most underrepresented citizens and neighbors. Caring community members have the ability to identify problems and correct disparities.

Community standards will increase as the Center for Localism provides resources for concerned citizens to inform others about the benefits of active involvement in their local economies and quality of life issues. The center will raise awareness of the value and interrelated need for economic and cultural diversity. Services and educational resources will promote support for broad ownership of businesses, greater representation of community voices, sustainable energy and environment, improved health and safety, as well as increased support for local cultural resources as important forms of community identity.
